Animal Rescue Insurance

Animal Rescues are an important and essential part to the communities you serve. Saving animals lives is a never ending task in today’s world- one that requires a great deal of time, commitment, and energy. The team at Animal Welfare Organization wants to thank you for that commitment. Your efforts do not go unappreciated and they should not go unprotected either.

Finding insurance for animal rescues is often a task that is forgotten about by many animal rescues, especially small foster based animal rescues. Why would a foster based dog or cat rescue need insurance? The answer is simply to protect the services you have built for your community.

Whether your rescue is foster based or based out of a shelter, researching and finding insurance for your animal rescue is an important part of the work you do. Did you know that most homeowners insurance policies EXCLUDE coverage for homes that have a business running out of their home (that includes nonprofit animal rescues!). Animal rescue insurance can provide protection in the following scenarios:

  1. General Liability Insurance - Your animal rescue sets up at a local adoption event and one of the potential adopters is bitten by a dog shown by your organization. Liability insurance would help to pay for the medical costs associated with that bite and would provide defense in the event you were sued.
  2. Professional Liability Insurance - Your animal rescue adopts out a dog to nice local family. Two weeks later you get a call that the dog has bitten a member of the community! Even though you had the family sign a hold harmless waiver, your organization is being sued. Professional liability insurance will help protect your organization by hiring and paying for a lawyer to defend your animal rescue.
  3. Accident & Health Insurance - Volunteers are the lifeblood of small nonprofit animal rescues. Are your volunteers protected if they are injured while doing volunteer work for you? Volunteer accident & health insurance will provide medical payment help to any volunteer injured who may not have health insurance or who may still have to pay out of pocket with their health insurance.
  4. Directors & Officers Liability Insurance - Directors & Officers or Board of directors play a vital role in the operations of nonprofit animal rescues. They make important decisions regarding funds, donations, and services being offered to your communities. Did you know that if a board member is sued because of a decision made, there is no coverage under the general liability insurance policy? A separate policy needs to be purchased, Directors & Officers Insurance, which will provide coverage in the event your board of directors is sued for a decision made in relation to the animal rescue.
